The basics – cleansing first

It is important to cleanse the face before applying make-up – this clarifies the skin and makes the make-up easier to apply. Follow the Dr.Hauschka care regimen by cleansing, toning and moisturising as usual. A moisture-balancing foundation is very important at this cold time of year when the skin is exposed to weather-related stress.

The complexion – the best way to start

Begin with Dr.Hauschka Translucent Make-up. Apply the make-up in the desired shade, followed by Dr.Hauschka Translucent Face Powder loose or compact. This will help the look to last longer. The powder is best applied with a Dr. Hauschka Powder Brush. Before moving on to the eye make-up, apply a small amount of concealer in a colour that matches the skin tone to the inner corner of the eye.

In a blink of the eye

Apply a generous amount of Kajal Eyeliner 05 black along the upper and lower lashlines. For an intensive evening look, apply the eyeliner all the way to the lower inside edge. Now smudge the lines on the upper lid to the brow bone and to the outer corner of the eye. The light, creamy and smudged Kajal Eyeliner helps to keep the eyeshadow in place for longer. When smudging, the eyeliner should therefore be spread over the entire area where eyeshadow will be applied.

Now use a lightly dabbing, rolling motion to apply Eyeshadow 04 Taupe to the outer upper lid and the lower lid over the eyeliner. Smudge the eyeshadow to the inner corner of the eye. Now use the subtly delicate Eyeshadow 09 Ivory to highlight the inner corner of the eye and under the eyebrow, blending well with a brush. Finally, brush the eyelashes with Volume Mascara Black. For a more intense result, apply again twice.

To define the cheeks, apply Rouge Powder 03 Rosé to the upper cheekbones. Place a small amount of Eyeshadow 09 Ivory on a Dr. Hauschka Rouge Brush and use gently circling motions to spread it from the cheek to the outer edge of the face. This will highlight the cheeks giving a rosy shimmer.

Lips – awakened with a kiss

Those who wish to keep their lips well moisturised can apply Dr.Hauschka Lip Balm or Lip Care Stick before putting on lipstick. Then use lightly dabbing motions to apply Lipstick 15 Violet Marble to the lips. This gives a romantic look of having been awakened with a kiss. Those who want to place a stronger emphasis on the lips can follow the lipstick with Lipliner 02 Warm Red.

Extra tip for long-lasting make-up:

Dr.Hauschka Facial Toner or Clarifying Toner are the ideal assistants. Apply a small amount to the face, spraying two or three times after the application of the make-up ensuring a more natural look as a result.

Do you need a Serum or an Oil?

Or might you need both…

Regenerating Serum
Regenerating Serum

What does Regenerating Serum do?

Regenerating Serum is firming and toning to the skin, you can feel it working it’s magic right from the get go!

You may not be able to see it’s firming action in the mirror on a day to day basis however I remember starting Regenerating Serum (and partner product Regenerating Day Cream), then going off to my hairdresser appointment 8 weeks later and the first thing he said to me was “Have you had work done?”, “No, of course not, *rolled eyes*, but you must be noticing my Regenerating, YAY!”
I’ve had similar situations with girlfriends when I’ve suggested it’s time to go onto Regenerating, and seeing them several weeks later.

  • Quince seed and Bryophyllum extracts replenish, smoothing wrinkles and fine lines while supporting the skin’s ability to balance moisture content
  • Antioxidant-rich Red Clover firms and refines, encouraging the skin’s natural processes of renewal
  • Nutrient-rich Clover Blossom Honey protects
  • Key ingredient Red Clover, it’s the great regenerator – mow down a field of red clover and it will all have grown back in no time at all, this is the vitality impulse we want to pass onto your skin

Who’s it for?

Formulated to support a maturing skin, it’s also cooling and soothing for a skin that may be sensitive as well. We usually recommend for age 40+ however, we may recommend at an earlier age in some cases – premature wrinkles, sun damage.

How do you use it?

Use one pump after cleansing and toning in the morning, and prior to moisturising.
In the evening use one pump after cleansing and toning.

Clarifying Day Oil
Clarifying Day Oil

Fondly referred to as our ‘liquid gold’!
That glorious orange colour comes from Wild Carrot Extract, which provides your skin with a rich source of provitamin A, among other goodies.

What does Clarifying Day Oil do?

Because we also produce around 900 homeopathic remedies we incorporate many homeopathic guidelines into our skin care. Clarifying Day Oil embraces ‘like treats like’ – give an oily skin an oil! Now you may think that’s contrary to everything else you’ve ever heard. However, harsh, overly alkaline, lathering, exfoliating products just ‘strip’ an oily skin, giving that ‘squeaky clean’ feeling that means the pH has been disrupted, then your skin goes into overdrive to compensate, producing even more oil.  We recommend for any age that’s suffering from an oily skin.
Clarifying Day Oil allows an oily skin to regulate and relax.

That’s not the only use for Clarifying Day Oil though…
We also use it to support any skin condition at any age in a blend.

Let’s look at the ingredients:

  • Anthyllis regulates, strengthens and balances any and all skin conditions
  • Apricot Kernel, Sweet Almond, Sunflower, Jojoba Seed Oils and Cocoa Butter nourish the skin
  • Wild Carrot Root Extract is a rich source of provitamin A, one of the skin healing vitamins
  • St. John’s wort (Hypericum) and Calendula Extracts soothe and calm the skin
  • Wheat Germ Oil is gluten free and a rich source of vitamin E, another of the skin healing vitamins

Who’s it for?

Anyone with an oily/blemished skin, at any age
Anyone who wishes to include these ingredients in their skin regime

How do you use it?

For an oily/blemished skin: Use 2-3 drops of Clarifying Day Oil after cleansing and toning in the morning only.

For any other skin condition: Use in a blend, examples…

a) Mix a couple of drops of Clarifying Day Oil with Rose Day Cream prior to application to get your vitamins A and E from Clarifying Day Oil and vitamin C, the other skin healing vitamin, from Rose Day Cream’s Rose Hip Extract. Makes a potent anti-oxidant blend.

b) For a combination skin, Revitalising Day Cream with Clarifying Day Oil.

c) For a maturing skin Regenerating Day Cream mixed with Clarifying Day Oil.

Mascara Application Advice From Our Expert

Dr. Hauschka Skin Care; Dr. Hauschka Kosmetik

Dr. Hauschka’s International make-up artist Karim Sattar provides advice on the best way to apply Mascara.

Dr. Hauschka: Mascara applied in the mornings makes tired eyes look more awake. What should we think about when applying it?

Karim Sattar: I want to start by saying something about the choice of colour as this can already influence the entire impression given off by the made-up eye. Black has a powerful effect whereas brown is equally as colour-intensive but looks far softer. If mascara is pretty much the only make-up you want to apply or you’ve only just started experimenting with cosmetics, brown is the right choice. However, those who want to apply black mascara should, in all events, choose a softer colour such as brown for the lower lashes. This graduated colour immediately makes the face look far younger.

Rejuvenation through colour selection, that sounds exciting. So, I’ve chosen a colour, extracted the brush and start with my top lashes…

…and you can already optimise your technique. If you want to apply mascara to both your top and bottom lashes, you should always start with the bottom ones. By doing so, you avoid any loss of colour from the still wet mascara on your top lashes. If your eyes start to water while you’re applying mascara, remain calm. Don’t fan air into your eyes but instead gently close your eyes and swallow. The application process itself is most effective if you use a zig-zag movement. This is a special application technique in which we use the brush from the side, i.e. holding it at a diagonal to the lash growth direction, and move it back and forth. Finally, take the brush away to the side, not upwards.

And that has a visible effect on the lashes?

Oh yes, the effect is impressive: you get right to the upper edge of the lash line, making the lashes appear thicker. The eyelid area looks as though an extremely thin line has been drawn along it.

That sounds good! Are there ways of fixing this beautifully applied mascara?

Yes, of course. The best thing to use is powder. Use an eyeshadow brush to apply a little Translucent Face Powder or Body Silk to your lashes before applying the mascara.

You hear a great deal about special brush designs. Does the design really make a difference?

The design is extremely important in fact as it determines the effect. For example, when we were designing the new brush for our Volume Mascara, we ensured that it would paint even the finest of lashes. This created a product for women with both full and sparser lashes.

Sometimes my lashes clump together when I apply mascara. What can I do to prevent that from happening?

It can help to brush through the painted lashes with a clean brush. The lashes are then beautifully separated but still coated in colour. Lashes often clump together if you apply mascara several times. This is a good way of strengthening the colour’s effect but also quickly makes your lashes stand out too much for the wrong reasons. In such cases, less is more.

Do you have any further special application tips for mascara?

With Dr. Hauschka Mascara, your lashes remain so elasticated that you can accentuate the tips with a different colour without the individual lashes sticking together. This makes your eyes appear more open and friendly. It also creates a wonderful lightplay in the sunshine. It’s like revealing a little secret when a different colour suddenly appears.
