The Formulation

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Arachis Hypogaea (Peanut) Oil, Beeswax (Cera Alba), Althaea Officinalis Root Extract, Rosa Damascena Flower Water, Hypericum Perforatum Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Sorbitan Olivate, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate, Fragrance (Parfum)*, Citronellol*, Geraniol*, Linalool*, Limonene*, Citral*, Farnesol*, Benzyl Alcohol*, Eugenol*, Rosa Damascena Flower Extract, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Zinc Sulfate, Lecithin, Rosa Damascena Flower Wax. * components from natural essential oils

Peanut Oil
Pharmaceutical grade peanut oil is used as an extracting medium for many plants. It has neutral qualities that do not interfere with the herb’s active constituents. It’s a very stable oil, requiring no additional antioxidants. Our peanut oil is steam treated and filtered to remove the proteins related to peanut allergies and has been tested and certified as aflatoxin-free.

This is a wax obtained from ecological beekeeping. For skin care the melted wax caps of the honeycomb cells are used to protect and care for the skin.

Althaea Officinalis Root Extract (Marsh Mallow)
In accordance with our beliefs we use the the root extract in this instance to address the epidermis or top layer of the skin. Even in antiquity the hairy leaves and the roots of the marsh mallow plant were valued for their high mucilage content. This forms a protective layer on broken or inflamed skin, soothing it, giving it moisture and making it soft and supple. The marsh mallow extracts in Dr.Hauschka Skin Care products are prepared using our own special rhythmic processes.

Rosa Damascena Flower Water or Hydrosol (Damask Rose)
Rose blossoms from certified organic cultivation, obtained during the production of rose essential oil by steam distillation. Rose water has a soothing, anti-inflammatory and harmonising action on the skin.

Hypericum Perforatum Flower/Leaf/Steam Extract (St. John’s wort)
St. John’s wort flowers during the longest days of the year, when it absorbs the sunlight intensively. It produces deep red dyes and essential oil. The red oily extract obtained from St. John’s wort has a soothing, regenerating and strengthening action on the skin. It soothes skin reddened by the sun. In cosmetic concentrations St. John’s wort oil does not make the skin more sensitive to sunlight.

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)
Shea butter is obtained from the nuts of the karite tree, which is a native of Africa. This soft plant fat has many skin-nurturing properties. It helps the skin to preserve moisture. The shea butter used in Dr. Hauschka products is obtained from a special cultivation project in Burkina Faso.

Sorbitan Olivate
Organic olive oil and sorbitol, vegetable emulsifier, has been included in the formula. Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol that occurs naturally in fruit, it’s valued for its nurturing action and its characteristics as a hydrating substance.

Persea Gratissima Oil (Avocado)
The oil obtained from the pulp of the avocado by mechanical pressing has a slightly green hue and contains many essential fatty acids and vitamins. It supports the moisture balance of the skin and prevents it from dryness.

Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate
Vegetable glycerol and fatty acids from organic castor oil form a skin-friendly emulsifier.

We only use natural organic essential oils as perfume. In accordance with EU regulatory legislation we are required to detail some natural chemical constituents of essential oils that may be sensitisers. Usually these sensitise when in man made synthetic isolation form as opposed to a minute part of a complete natural essential oil. For instance natural Rose Essential Oil has 350-500 chemical constituents.
Every drop of Rose Essential Oil is the concentrated fragrance of countless hand-sorted rose blossoms. As part of our essential oil mixtures, this precious oil is contained in most Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products. Several cultivation projects have been initiated to provide organic or biodynamic rose oil. The fine, delicate rose essential oil is valued for its harmonising action.

Rosa Damascena Flower Extract (Damask Rose Flower)
The rose has been called the queen of flowers. Rose petal extracts are prepared using our unique processes. They unfold their harmonising properties in many Dr. Hauschka products.

Rosa Canina Fruit Extract (Rose Hip)
Dog rose (Rosa canina) is a vigorous relative of the hybrid tea rose, it bears red, vitamin-C rich fruits: the rosehips. Rosehip extract strengthens and cares for the skin. Dr. Hauschka uses extracts prepared using our own special rhythmic processes.

Copernicia Cerifera Wax (Carnauba)
This wax comes from the leaves of the carnauba palm native in Brazil (harvested in protected wild areas). Carnauba wax is one of the hardest waxes of natural origin. It gives the skin protection from external influences.

Zinc Sulfate
Zinc is known as an essential trace element to the human body. Zinc sulfate stabilises an emulsion. An emulsion is a mixture of water and oil.

Lecithins from soy beans (GM free) bind the oil and water components in creams as a natural emulsifier. They have a smoothing and moisturising action on the skin.

Rosa Damascena Flower Wax (Damask Rose Flower)
The precious wax obtained from rose petals rests gently on the skin and protects it from the environment and dryness.

St. John's wort (Hypericum)
St. John’s wort (Hypericum)

Why does Rose Day Cream contain St. John’s wort (hypericum)?

The iconic Rose Day Cream centres on the many facets of the rose. These are joined by St. John’s wort (hypericum perforatum), a vibrant, yellow summertime flower. The radiant petals, which stretch up towards the sun on straight stems, are abundant at the time of the summer solstice. This seems to be an expression of St. John’s wort’s sunny disposition. In Rose Day Cream, this ‘bringer of light’ supports those who are particularly thin-skinned and in need of protection, helping to protect more successfully against external influences.

  1. I was very happy with my Rose Day Cream as it was and now I’m reading that this classic, worldwide best seller is being changed and I can’t understand the need to change it, since it has been such an amazing product.
The iconic colour of the gold pump has also been changed to a steely grey on the cleansing milk as was the shape of the pump (it’s no longer rounded but flat on the top) and my beloved Lavender Bath oil that I used for compress has been discontinued and replaced with a creamy consistency Moor Lavender. I have also been made aware that the cleansing milk will be changed from its glass bottle to a tube like the cleanser, Purifante.
From a customer’s prospective, you choose a product that you can trust after doing a lot of research about it; the ingredients, the packaging, being glass and so much cleaner than tubes and plastics, the look of the product; glass, simple yet chic gold and neutral labelling (which I loved because it made it look so special, classy, regal and associated with it being healthy and natural. It reminded me of sunshine) and then when it is changed, it is quite a problem for me anyway because you sort of lose your confidence in using it.
I worry that maybe adding new ingredients or changing ingredients to what has so far been so wonderful for my skin and my overall health will affect my skin differently and not always for the better. That is a real concern for me.
I do apologise and do not mean to offend, but my impression of the new look pump dispenser being changed from gold and rounded, to steely grey and flat topped, made it look cheap, not more modern. Again, I do apologise if I have caused offence, but I’m very passionate about your products because I love them so much.
For me, your product has been amazing and I absolutely adore it, but the changes have made me sad and I’m worried that soon, the product that I love so much will be unrecognisable and not the product I fell in love with.
Your products are perfection both in substance and appearance. Please don’t continue to change your so much loved and iconic products. Please don’t move away from what you had before to either, modernise it, or keep up with a fashion trend, etc. not all customers consider this necessary or better for them. Those that use your product or will come to use it, are very lucky indeed and will recognise it and use it for what it is, A Standout Product amongst the many out there! I, and I’m sure a lot of customers of yourselves, love the product the way it is now, Perfect.
I apologise for any upset that I may have caused.
Thank you for your time and thank you Dr. Hauschka for your amazing products!

    1. Hi Sev

Sorry to take so long to reply, we have had Karim Sattar Dr. Hauschka International Make-up Artist visiting and have been in attendance at his Events in Sydney and Melbourne. Amazing man!

I totally understand everything you have said. I have been a Rose Day Cream customer since first starting Dr. Hauschka, some 19 years ago now. Since 2008 I’ve been Regenerating Serum and Regenerating Day Cream during the week, still Rose Day Cream during the weekend and sometimes during the week, I do alternate with day care depending on the season, my skin… I was extremely worried about a change in the formulation, however, the change is minimal and actually I prefer it. It seems to absorb into the skin quicker, the perfume, although only changed slightly once again I prefer. Please send me your address to so I can send you a sachet sample of the optimised formulation Rose Day Cream so you can trial it. We are a little behind Europe in terms of launch and to date there has not been one negative comment about the optimised formula.

With regard to the change in formulation from Lavender Bath to Moor Lavender Bath Essence. I know the change does take some getting used to. Jose, our Australasian Esthetician Trainer who uses Moor Lavender Bath Essence daily in her Dr. Hauschka compresses during Facial Treatments is a fan of the change, the use of Moor (specially prepared extract of peat) is protective and grounding so it helps her clients clear their head of busy thoughts. I have also found I adore the new Rose Nurturing Bath Essence, Lemon Lemongrass Vitalising for my morning hydrating and compressing and also the Almond Soothing Bath Essence, all of which are available in trial size. We also have a limited edition 30ml Spruce Bath Essence which imparts the same feeling as walking in a forest for me, relaxing but not sleepy relaxing. The Moor Lavender and Rose are both ‘milky’ formulations, the others are not.

Cleansing Milk is not going into a tube, it remains in it’s glass bottle.

Our products are so very special, time honoured methods of gardening, harvesting, processing… Our philosophy and ideology remain the same also. After so many years of being a customer and for all my girlfriends I put onto Dr. Hauschka many years ago, we’re thrilled with results, we all have extremely good skin in our 40’s and 50’s.

More about the packaging change here…

I do hope I have alleviated your concerns.

      Warmest wishes
      Janet 🙂
