Five body moisturisers for five different moods

Screen Shot 2015-04-28 at 2.20.40 pm

What affects my skin, affects me too

They’ll energise you for the day or pamper you at night. Each enchants with its own special aroma and character. All give you wonderful natural and organic body care.

Lotions are mood setters
When it comes to choosing a body moisturiser, the decision shouldn’t be taken lightly: choose according to your whims and mood. Just as a butterfly floats from flower to flower, you too can alternate between the various lotions. Mood setting compositions delicately caress your skin and touch your spirits. They excite vitality and a sense of lightness, or promote serenity and security. It is in this way that body lotions accompany and enrich your everyday life.

Our moisturisers, your mindfulness
The more mindfully you apply the lotion, the more you will experience and benefit from the composition. “We consciously talk about gently applying our body moisturisers”, explains Manuela Schöbel, Head of Cosmetic Consulting at Dr. Hauschka. “This involves light touches which make contact with the tissue – in contrast to a massage, which focuses on the muscles.” You don’t need specially trained hands to be able to develop a soothing touch. Simply follow your instincts. And for a moment, make yourself the most important person in your life.

Which moisturiser is right for which time?
Choose your body moisturiser based on mood – it’s a personal choice. The intensive nourishing Almond Soothing Body Cream works wonderfully in the cooler months, while Lemon Lemongrass Vitalising Body Milk with its refreshing and invigorating aroma is perfect for warmer months. Lavender Sandalwood lends serenity, Quince gives lightness and Rose offers a sense of security – to name just a few of the talents of our body moisturisers. Manuela Schöbel reveals: “When my inner princess wants a bit of pampering and reverence, I reach for my Rose Nurturing Body Cream. And when I feel stressed, Lavender Sandalwood Calming Body Cream helps to fortify me again.”

All five body lotions have nurturing and emotional compositions. Give in to your curiosity, treat yourself, a different moisturiser for different moods.

Each lotion has its own unique character

Delightful skin care
Body lotions which nurture and protect your skin

Your home spa experience
It takes only minutes and yet gently massaging in your body lotion is like a spa experience. Give a little undivided attention to every part of your body. Feel whether or not your elbows or perhaps your shins need an extra bit of care and attention.

Enjoy a moment to yourself, before you dive back into the day.

Milk or Cream?
The five body lotions from Dr. Hauschka not only differ in terms of their ingredients and scent; they also have different textures: the creams with Rose, Almond and Lavender Sandalwood are thick and rich, whereas Lemon Lemongrass Vitalising Body Milk and Quince Hydrating Body Milk are somewhat lighter and thus absorb into your skin more quickly.

A dreamlike aroma
Who says that lotions should only be kept in the bathroom? Instead, put your favourite lotion by your bed. Let the day slip away and take the fragrance of the composition with you as you drift off into your dreams.

Always towards the heart
You should always rub in moisturisers in the direction of your heart. This optimally enlivens your lymphatic flow, blood circulation and vitality – allowing your heart to be moved by your actions.

Fragrant layering
You can enrich your body moisturiser with a little Body Oil. Either choose an oil with similar ingredients (for example Rose or Lemon Lemongrass) for a ‘layering’ effect or choose to suit your mood.

Elisabeth Sigmund, Chapter 6

Screen Shot 2015-04-26 at 2.29.32 pm

Elisabeth Sigmund, co-founder of Dr. Hauschka Skin Care, Chapter 6 in our series – WWII and a new start in Sweden

In peaceful times, Karl Sigmund had decided to become an officer because he saw the military as more of a diplomatic service acting in the name of peace. He now had to go to war as a captain, which involved frequent postings. Whenever possible, Elisabeth Sigmund followed him within Germany and worked as a Red Cross nurse.

Anti-war culture
Toward the end of the war, Karl Sigmund was stationed in Rudolstadt, Thuringia, for a long time. The Sigmunds were able to move into a small tea house that was part of the baroque-style Heidecksburg residential palace. It was also called the Schillerhäuschen because Schiller had temporarily lived there. To provide relief from everyday life during the war, Elisabeth Sigmund arranged an artistic evening every second Thursday with selected guests, including many creative artists. This group increasingly became an intellectual and social home for those who did not want to put up with the Nazi regime and the war.

Even during the war, Elisabeth Sigmund kept studying medical books in libraries. After she found a chemist in Berlin who sold plants on the black market, she made cosmetics and gave them to the officer’s wives that she met to test.

The end of the war and a tough new beginning
On 13 April 1945, the American forces took Rudolstadt, accompanied by severe aerial bombardments. On that day, Elisabeth Sigmund was working as the head Red Cross nurse in the basement of the Heidecksburg. At the time, Karl Sigmund was in Böhmen, where he received a telegram on 8 May 1945 telling him that the war was over. He ran on foot to Rudolstadt. On the way, he was briefly captured by the Americans but released again once they had determined that he was not a Nazi. After his arrival in Rudolstadt, Karl Sigmund began to offer a courier service using a converted Citroën but was imprisoned by the Soviet secret police in the Weimar city jail without reason. Elisabeth Sigmund tried to arrange his release with the Russian police. He was only set free after two years. During this uncertain period of waiting, the contacts from her Thursday gatherings proved to be a real help to Elisabeth Sigmund. For example, one of them gave her the opportunity to work as second dramaturge and director’s assistant in the theatre in Jena. In 1947, after Karl Sigmund’s release, he and his wife had to leave Germany. Within the scope of repatriation, large numbers of people who had been living somewhere temporarily because of the war returned to their home countries. The Sigmunds moved to Salzburg, where they prepared their plan to move to Sweden. The idea came from Karl Sigmund’s Swedish foster Aunt Signe, with whom he had spent two years of his childhood in Stockholm. He remembered this as a wonderful time. After the end of the Second World War, Aunt Signe convinced him to build a new life in Sweden with his wife, saying that she had enough funds to help them with this plan. In 1948, the Sigmunds received their entry permit and sold all their remaining property to finance the sea journey.

Dashed hopes
The Sigmunds arrived to stay with 59-year old Aunt Signe without a penny. But contrary to what she had said, she was not in a position to help them. Her husband, who had been a bank director, had embezzled money from the bank and spent four years in jail. He had since died and Aunt Signe was living off a small pension in a one-room apartment outside of Stockholm. The Sigmunds had had no idea of her situation and both felt that they had been deceived. However, they did not have the funds to immediately return to Austria and so, they stayed. Karl Sigmund took the first jobs that came along as a labourer – initially without a work permit. In 1950, he found a job at a large driving school in Stockholm. On 1 March 1965, he took over management of the driving school. In the meantime, Elisabeth Sigmund learned Swedish and began studying cosmetics again.

Make-up Mistakes & How To Rectify Them

Screen Shot 2015-04-15 at 12.25.23 pm
Model is wearing Foundation 01, Concealer 01, Translucent Face Powder Compact, Bronzing Powder, Rouge Powder 02, Kajal Eyeliner 01, Eyeshadow Solo 03 and 04, Kajal Eyeliner Duo 01 White, Eyeliner Liquid Black, Volume Mascara Black, Lipliner 03, Lipstick Novum 10.

1) Using an incorrect foundation shade

When your face doesn’t match your neck.

Solutions: Have your colour matching professionally done in store, but always check in daylight not under store lights. Don’t use the back of your hand to check colour, use your jaw line. Alternatively follow Dr. Hauschka International Make-up Artist, Karim Sattar’s Top Application Tips & Tricks Video. I find a Foundation Blending Brush works well to ensure colour blends onto neck.

Tip: You’ll find Dr. Hauschka NEW Foundations much easier to colour match. If you need more warm tones in summer just add a little Translucent Bronzing Tint to your Foundation.

Translucent tip: You can also mix Foundation with your Dr. Hauschka Moisturiser for a translucent look or apply with a moist sponge.

2) Dark lipliner with lighter lipstick

Solution: Ensure your lipliner matches your lipstick. Karim Sattar, Dr. Hauschka International Make-up Artist, recommends applying lip liner all over the lips simply because lipstick comes off and liner stays put and outlined lips are not what you’re looking for.

3) Blush that looks like racing stripes or no blush at all

Solution: Smile and apply blush lightly to the ‘apples’ of your cheeks. Always use a big Powder/Blusher Brush which is better at distributing colour, shake off excess, then apply. Your aim is to get subtle colour in your cheeks, think of a child’s cheeks. We often see a flat make-up, with no blusher or bronzer. It’s important for a youthful make-up to add the colour back in after applying Foundation and Powder.

4) Applying too much powder

Powder is important to set your Foundation for a longer lasting make-up, however, it looks caked if too much is used.

Solution: Use a large Powder Brush, tap off excess, then apply downwards to smooth down fine hairs. Finish with a spritz of Dr. Hauschka Toner which takes away a powdery look and also helps to set your make-up.

5) Applying Make-up too soon after Moisturiser

Or applying make-up to skin that hasn’t been cleansed, toned and moisturised.

Solution: Wait while your day care product absorbs into the skin. I do my morning regime of Cleansing Cream, Toner and Moisturiser then have breakfast and get dressed so my skin care has plenty of time to absorb. The aim is to apply your make-up evenly on clean, nourished and protected skin.

Dr. Hauschka decorate Cosmetic; Dr. Hauschska Dekorative Kosmetik
Model is wearing Kajal Eyeliner Duo 01 Anthracite, Eyeshadow Solo 07 and 09, Rouge Powder 03, Volume Mascara Black.

6) Clumpy Eyelashes

Never pump your mascara which forces air into the tube and dries out the formula.

Solution: Dr. Hauschka Mascara and Volume Mascara are made with nourishing ingredients such as Candelilla Wax, precious Damask Rose Blossom Wax and Beeswax. Remember all mascaras, natural and organic or otherwise should be replaced every 3 months. Pop a reminder in your phone when you purchase a new mascara for 3 months time.

Tip: Karim Sattar our International Make-up Artist recommends using a softer colour than black on bottom lashes, because you don’t want to enhance anything downward for a youthful make-up. Try Pearl Anthracite or Aubergine Volume Mascara, or Brown Mascara.

7) Eyeliner lines

Keep it softer during the day, apply eyeliner pencil to the outer 1/3rd and blend inwards, then set with eye shadow and an angled brush. Anthracite is a soft black which is flattering for a day time make-up.

The Only Ingredients Your Skin Needs

Screen Shot 2015-04-07 at 1.37.25 pm

The experts at Dr. Hauschka Skin Care understand your skin. We know both what it needs and doesn’t need for a healthy, radiant appearance.

What your skin needs

  • Since 1967, we have been crafting natural and organic skin care products and we have identified over one hundred highly potent plants that guide your skin to a balanced state.
  • We know exactly which botanicals and combinations of botanicals will best deliver the visible transformation you’re looking to see.
  • Every ingredient that goes into a Dr. Hauschka Skin Care product has an important job to do. Whether delivering essential moisture, encouraging resilience or improving efficacy, each ingredient is carefully selected for its particular effects and its interaction with the whole composition.
  • We only include the ingredients you need for long-lasting skin health and beauty and we only include fragrance from pure botanical essential oils to stimulate your senses and inspire feelings that uplift, relax or energise.

What Your Skin Doesn’t Need

  • Filler ingredients that serve no purpose to your skin
  • Harsh abrasives and “quick fixes” that disrupt your skin’s natural processes
  • Harsh, overly alkaline or lathering cleansers
  • Synthetic chemical ingredients

The Importance Of Using Natural Beauty Products

Our skin is the largest organ in our body, it’s semi-permeable and therefore absorbs many product ingredients to the tiny blood vessels below the skin and then into the bloodstream.
On a daily basis, we apply face skin care, deodorant, body moisturiser, tanning products, sun protection, hair care including styling products, make-up and that’s just the morning routine. It’s not difficult to use up to 20 products daily!

  • Synthetic, man-made chemical products are essentially foreign bodies to the skin and, therefore, are over time stressors to the skin.
  • For our health and well-being, all products we place on the skin should be made from the highest quality natural, biodynamic and organic ingredients.
  • What you put on your skin affects both the health of your skin and your body.
  • Knowing this, you would want to use only the highest quality ingredients from nature.
  • The finest natural and organic ingredients support healthy and balanced skin function and a healthy skin doesn’t suffer from premature ageing either.

The ingredients you put on your skin, face and body, do matter

We know to feed our body nutritious, and wherever possible, organic food and it’s the same for your skin care, we’ve transformed nature’s ingredients to make natural and organic skin care convenient and easy to use – ingredients that your skin understands.

Dr. Hauschka Biodynamic Medicinal Plant Garden
Dr. Hauschka Biodynamic Medicinal Plant Garden

Unique in skin care philosophy

At Dr. Hauschka, we have a medicinal background since 1935 with anthroposophical homeopathic remedies and many of these guidelines and of course medicinal knowledge goes into crafting our skin care.

If you have an oily skin you may be tempted to use harsh cleansing products that ‘strip’ the skin, this just results in your skin producing more oil to compensate. Clarifying Day Oil is a lightweight, rapidly absorbed oil, that helps to calm, balance and regulate oily skin. Yes, oil for an oily skin!

We’re absolutely against the use of night creams. During the night your skin regenerates and eliminates, and heavy, occlusive night creams impede this natural process of the skin. Sleeping isn’t ageing. Creams should only be used to protect and nourish your skin during the day time. Use of eye cream at night usually causes puffy eyes in the morning. For night time we use botanical extracts in a watery solution. One month of no night cream and you will see the difference!

Also we understand your skin has differing cleansing needs at each end of the day, therefore we have different morning and evening cleansing products that are both effective and gentle to your skin. Our morning cleanser is a deep cleansing almond meal preparation due to the overnight elimination activity of your skin while cleansing in the evening is to clean the dirt and dust your skin picks up during the day and to remove make-up and eye make-up.

Regenerating Range to support a maturing skin

How do you know authentic natural and organic ingredients in the total formulation?

What percentage of the ingredients in natural cosmetics are organic? What are the minimum standards and the maximum values? Furthermore: how can you describe the high quality of a product other than through its material properties – its finely tuned composition, its more than biochemical effect?

Our entire skin care and make-up is certified with the BDIH seal for ‘certified natural cosmetics’ and/or the international quality seal for natural and organic cosmetics ‘NATRUE’. The NATRUE standard distinguishes between natural cosmetics, natural cosmetics with at least 70% organic ingredients and natural cosmetics with at least 95% organic ingredients. The term ‘natural skin care’ alone is neither legally protected nor defined on a binding basis. At NATRUE you can find the certifications given to each individual Dr. Hauschka product. Look for the NATRUE label for a guarantee that products are as natural as can be! This provides consumer transparency and it’s our guarantee our products are free from synthetic chemical fragrances, colours and preservatives, mineral oils, petrochemicals, parabens, silicones and PEG.

Our preference is for biodynamic/Demeter certified, organic or responsibly wild harvested ingredients. If an organic version of a raw material is not yet available on the global market, we initiate organic or biodynamic growing projects.

Screen Shot 2015-03-02 at 11.21.42 am

There is more to quality than good raw materials

Our recipes depend on the highest quality natural and organic raw materials – but also on the care with which they were grown and processed. By using Demeter farming, we gain medicinal plant extracts that are high in vitality to pass onto your skin. The ingredients come together to form complex compositions made up of more than just the sum of their components. Only when their ingredients interact and are supported by our rhythmic manufacturing procedure do our products take on their unique quality that enables them to stimulate the skin’s natural activity.

The result: a healthy, strengthened, balanced, regulated and radiant skin!

P.S. We have never tested on animals, we test on happy to help out human volunteers.
