Dryness and dehydration is a prime reason for premature wrinkles and lines so it’s imperative we protect our skin from this condition.
Dryness: lack of oil
Caused by ageing and the slowing down of sebum production, genetics and a drying outdoor environment.
Dehydration: lack of water
Caused by not drinking enough water and air conditioning/heating indoor environment. Air travel is extremely dehydrating.
We often see both conditions presenting in the same skin.
So what’s the solution to winter dryness and dehydration?
Hydrating Mask is our ultimate winter skin fix, twice a week, cleanse early in the evening and apply the mask, around your eye contour too, and leave on to absorb all evening, removing with a moist, tepid cloth before bed.
Tip: If your skin is extremely dry you may also use Hydrating Mask as your ‘day cream’ for a month or until condition improves.
This blend of botanicals soothes, protects and revitalises while sealing in moisture, leaving skin feeling smooth and supple.
– Quince seed extract replenishes and helps dry skin to retain moisture
– Nourishing almond, avocado, olive and jojoba oils hydrate the outer layer of skin
– Rose wax and organic shea butter soothe and protect
Another winter skin solution
The skin healers and antioxidants are Vitamins A, C and E, and the optimum choice when topically applying these vitamins is when they come in the form of the whole plant extract, as opposed to isolated and/or synthetic chemicals.
Rosehip is a rich source of vitamin C and Wheatgerm is a rich source of vitamin E, both found in Rose Day Cream formulation. Mix with a couple of drops of Clarifying Day Oil to skin still moist from Toner. That glorious orange colour comes from Wild Carrot Extract, a rich source of provitamin A.
There you have it, a potent antioxidant and protective blend for cold weather!
Mask Treatment Tip:
Firming, Moisturising & Hydrating Mask Blend
For a dry and/or dehydrating skin that also needs firming:
• Cleanse early in the evening
• Apply a generous amount of Regenerating Serum including eye contour area as an ‘eye mask’ as well
• Then apply Hydrating Mask over the Serum, including eye contour area
• Leave to absorb all evening, removing with a warm, moist cloth just before bedtime
The other blend we recommend is for those that get dry, red, irritated, itchy or flaky skin in winter. You can still do the above Mask Treatment Blend, but use Soothing Mask instead of Hydrating Mask to strengthen and restore a sensitive skin. Regenerating Serum is also formulated for a sensitive skin.
Do you need to alter your day care with the Seasons?
Yes, that may well be the case. We have many customers using cooling Quince Day Cream or matte Rose Day Cream Light in the warmer months and change to more protective and warming Rose Day Cream in the cooler months. Check in with your skin, see how it’s feeling and certainly change to a more protective day care if need be.
I use Regenerating Serum and Regenerating Day Cream during the week which is spent indoors and in the weekend I use Regenerating Serum and Rose Day Cream when I’m more likely to have time outdoors. So even my weekly ritual changes due to my daily environment.
For a dry skin we also recommend Revitalising Day Cream which helps to activate sebaceous glands, even though it’s very light in texture. Some of our customers like to apply Tinted Day Cream or Rose Day Cream over Revitalising Day Cream to provide additional winter time protection.
If Regenerating Day Cream isn’t enough in the cooler seasons then you may switch to using the more rich Regenerating Neck & Décolleté Cream for your face care as well.
Winter Skin Regime in a nutshell
Everyone is unique as is their skin condition, however this regime is typically prescribed during winter.
Regenerating Serum if it’s in your regime, to support a maturing skin
Eye Cream – Daily Hydrating, Regenerating or Eye Balm
Rose Day Cream
Soothing Cleansing Milk
Regenerating Serum or Night Serum
Twice a week: Hydrating Mask
Top winter protective products are Lip Balm and Eye Balm
Eye Balm is a beeswax based product. You only need use the size of a piece of rice, then melt the waxes between your ring fingers and apply gently to eye contour area. Enormously protective against winter weather and skin feels as soft as silk.
Dry winter hands?
Tip: Give your hands a once a week Hydrating Mask treatment while you watch a movie! Use Hydrating Hand Cream daily, which deeply moisturises without leaving a greasy residue.
Winter is a hibernating time according to the rhythm of nature. We can’t exactly hibernate, but we can sustain ourselves with warming Moor Lavender Calming Body Oil which is both warming and protective, or my personal favourite, Blackthorn Toning Body Oil which I find warming and strengthening. It also helps me focus when I’m wearing it, getting through one job at a time and tick them off. Blackthorn Elixir has been used for years as a strengthening tonic to assist in the treatment of fatigue or convalescence and for those who are feeling stressed or drained of vitality.
Sometimes you just need a little ‘me time’ and a treat. A warming foot bath, even if it’s only for 10 minutes quiet time, that can still do wonders. Perhaps while you are having your Mask treatment. Choose your Dr. Hauschka Bath Essence aromatics for the benefits you are looking for:
