Every Day – Morning

1) Drink warm water and lemon juice first thing upon waking in the morning and do this every morning. If it’s going to be easier then juice a pile of lemons, put the juice in ice blocks and freeze. Take one block out each night and place in a cup, so you’re ready for the morning. We need to make this habit quick and easy. Aids the body in a clear skin, flushing out toxins, jump starts the digestive tract, aids the liver in its cleansing processes and increases detoxification.

2) Use 5 drops of Lemon Lemongrass Vitalising Bath Essence in your basin cleansing water. We recommend Compress & Hydration + Press & Roll, at the basin, rather than cleansing in your morning shower.

Why do we promote ‘Compress & Hydrate’?
a) Warming your skin first softens your pores to ensure a much deeper cleanse
b) You will use your cleansing products much more economically
c) Complete by splashing or compressing with cool water after cleansing to activates a minute muscle beside the hair follicle, contraction helps to remove any last remaining dirt
d) Your skin will feel so much softer without the need for harsh exfoliation
e) Check out our Compress & Hydrate + Press & Roll video

We want you to get the best results!

3) Cleansing Cream – ‘press & roll’ technique.

4) Facial Toner or Clarifying Toner – close eyes and mist onto the skin, 3 pumps should do.

5) Day Care – all are highly concentrated so should always be warmed between the palms of the hands and applied to skin still moist from Toner. This ensures even and economical application.

Clarifying Day Oil – to balance and regulate an oily/blemished skin
Melissa Day Cream – for sensitive combination (oily t-zone, dry/normal cheeks) skin
Rose Day Cream Light – for normal or sensitive skin, usually recommended for a younger skin, up to around 35.
Rose Day Cream – rich and highly protective for normal, dry, sensitive, mature skin
Quince Day Cream – cooling, soothing and protective for normal skin or sensitive skin
Tinted Day Cream – tinted moisturiser for normal, dry, sensitive or mature skin
Revitalising Day Cream – for aiding sebaceous activity and guiding skin to a balanced state in a normal, dry, mature/pallid skin
Regenerating Serum & Regenerating Day Cream – specific support for firming a maturing skin

Dr. Hauschka Skin Care; Dr. Hauschka Kosmetik

Every Day – Evening

1) ‘Compress and Hydrate’ skin to soften the pores in readiness for cleansing. Use 5 drops of Moor Lavender Calming Bath Essence in the water
2) Soothing Cleansing Milk
3) Apply Renewing Night Conditioner or Sensitive Care Conditioner ampoule.

This is your weekly routine, so repeat until you reach your 28th evening. By which time your skin will be deeply cleansed, nourished, more even toned, soft, radiant and healthy!

Great skin care is about using the highest quality natural and organic products. Eat fresh, nutritious food, drink 6-8 glasses of water daily, 8 hours sleep and put measures in place if you’re stressed – a state of relaxation, happiness and laughter is good for your skin. A 30 minute daily walk in the fresh air is good for your body, mind and soul, in nature if you can.

Mixing Clarifying Clay Mask with water in readiness for application

For those that need it here’s step by step instructions on how to do a Clarifying Steam BathClarifying Clay Mask and Cream Mask for Day 1 which will be repeated once a week during the programme, alternatively there’s full instructions in your product box:

1. Compress and hydrate your skin, cleanse with Soothing Cleansing Milk, remove with the warm, moist Dr. Hauschka Compress Cloth.
2. Place 1 heaped teaspoon of Clarifying Clay Mask in a small container in readiness.
3. Dilute two teaspoons of Clarifying Steam Bath with ½ litre (500ml) of steaming water in a large bowl. Lean over the bowl, covering the head with towel, and steam for 5-10 minutes. Follow with Clarifying Clay Mask application.

Please note: If you don’t wish to steam, then you may do this step with Clarifying Steam Bath and ‘Compress and Hydrate’ instead.

4. While your skin is still warm and moist mix 2 to 2 1/2 teaspoons of water (I use the Clarifying Steam Bath water) to the Clarifying Clay Mask in the small container. The consistency you want is spreadable, not too thin because it will drip off your face and not a paste.

5. Apply mask to your face and neck excluding eye contour area ideally with a mask brush. Apply from the centre of the face outwards. We always work in the direction of lymph flow. Allow to dry, it’s no longer active once dry.

Clarifying Clay Mask Tip: Watch where the clay mask dries first. That’s a good indication that particular area of your face is dehydrated. Are you missing that area with your Day Care? Do you need a richer Day Care product?

6. To remove Clarifying Clay Mask the Dr. Hauschka Cleansing Sponge makes the job quick and easy, but a non white face flannel will do, moistened with the now lukewarm facial steam water. Remove by moistening the mask first, then wiping.

7. Now apply your Cream Mask (Revitalising, Hydrating, Firming or Soothing) including the eye contour area, as an eye mask.

8. Leave on for at least 30 minutes to absorb. I leave mine on for most of the evening. Remove Cream Mask with a warm moist Compress Cloth before bedtime.

9. Apply the contents of a Renewing Night Conditioner Ampoule.

Please note: If you are new to Renewing Night Conditioner ampoules, flick the top to ensure all liquid is in the bottom of the ampoule, then using a towel break off the glass top. Pour 1/2 the contents into the palm of one hand, spread between the palms of the hands and quickly press into the skin and repeat with the balance of the liquid. Apply nothing further to your skin. It’s bedtime.

Note: We do not recommend any heat for a rosacea skin condition – use tepid water for a Compress & Hydrate instead.

Your skin will reward you for the extra effort, it will look radiant, refined and even toned, nourished and pampered. x

Winter Skin Tips

Screen Shot 2016-04-06 at 4.58.42 PM

Dryness and dehydration are prime reasons for premature wrinkles so it’s imperative we protect our skin from these conditions, and during winter we need to be particularly vigilant, as outdoor weather is drying and indoor heating is dehydrating.

So what’s the solution to winter dryness and dehydration?

Screen Shot 2016-06-14 at 9.40.56 AM

Hydrating Mask is Dr. Hauschka’s ultimate winter skin fix, twice a week, cleanse early in the evening and apply the mask, also include eye contour area, and leave on to absorb all evening, removing with a moist, tepid cloth before bed. You’ll love how your skin feels in the morning!

TIP: If your skin is extremely dry/dehydrated you may also use Hydrating Mask as your ‘day moisturiser’ for a month long boost or until condition improves.

Hydrating Mask’s super rich blend of botanicals soothes, protects and revitalises while sealing in moisture, leaving skin feeling smooth and supple.

– Quince seed extract replenishes and helps dry skin to retain moisture

– Nourishing Almond, Avocado,Olive and Jojoba oils

– Rose Wax and organic Shea Butter soothe and protect

Screen Shot 2016-04-07 at 9.12.24 AM

Rose Day Cream contains Shea Butter, Beeswax and precious Rose Wax to protect your skin from outside elements and indoor heating. Precious extracts of Rose Petals and Wild Rose Hips help to balance and harmonise your skin, softening Marsh Mallow, calming St. John’s wort and nourishing Avocado Oil for winter care. Rose is a warming ingredient.

Quince Day Cream contains Quince Seed extract which helps your skin to retain moisture, while Quince Wax is protective against the environment. Quince is a cooling ingredient, however, that’s fine for some parts of the country.

TIP: Winter Mask Blend Treatment:

Firming, Moisturising and Hydrating Mask Blend, for a dry and/or dehydrated skin that also needs firming…

If your skin is dry, red, irritated, itchy or flaky in winter, choose Soothing Mask instead of Hydrating Mask to strengthen and restore a sensitive skin. Regenerating Serum is also formulated for a sensitive skin.

1) For a particularly dry, dehydrated or mature skin, we also recommend Revitalising Day Cream or Rose Day Cream under Tinted Day Cream. For added coverage, use our Foundation, which may be used over Tinted Day Cream.

2) To reduce shine, we recommend applying Translucent Face Powder after moisturiser. May also be applied over Tinted Day Cream as well.

Our ingredients

All ingredients in our products have a function and a purpose. Careful thought goes into the selection and sourcing of the raw materials as well as the way in which the individual ingredients are combined to form complete Dr. Hauschka products. We also adhere to the highest quality standards.

This blog tells you more about our ingredient Quince, where it comes from, why we use it and what functions it serves in our products.

Plant Profile

  • Quince produces large cup-shaped flowers which are white to delicate pink in colour
  • The fruits are pear or apple-shaped depending on the variety and they’re covered in a characteristic felty coating, which wipes off easily revealing a wax-coated skin and emanates a sweet, fresh fragrance
  • Quince may be stored
  • Quince is a member of the Rose family, so too are its close relatives Apples and Pears
  • Although Quince has been cultivated for thousands of years, it has undergone little change, and has largely retained the character of a wild fruit

Why is Quince used as an ingredient in Dr. Hauschka products?

  • Quince Seed extract helps your skin to retain moisture, perfect for a dry and/or dehydrated skin
  • Quince Wax protectively envelops the fruit, transferring this same ability to your skin for gentle and effective protection and strengthening your skin’s natural barrier
  • Soothing and cooling, and leaves your skin soft and smooth, with the refreshing aroma of QuinceScreen Shot 2016-04-01 at 4.51.24 PM

Quince Day Cream

  • For normal to dry/dehydrated skin, for skin that needs protection from the environment, for a ‘city-stressed’ skin
  • Quince is a cooling ingredient, also soothing for a sensitive skin
  • Quince Wax allows your skin to ‘breathe’ yet protects against air conditioning, dry winds, pollution
  • Guys love Quince Day Cream too! Soothing and cooling after shaving and the aroma appeals to both men and women

Quince Seeds
Quince Seeds

Origin, cultivation and processing
Originally from Western Asia and South-East Arabia, cultivation has led to the quince now being found worldwide, especially in Southern and Central Europe. Like its close relatives, apples and pears, the quince is also a member of the rose family.

The quince provides two interesting raw materials with very different properties: firstly, quince wax and secondly, quince seed extract.

The quince wax used in Dr. Hauschka products is practically produced on our doorstep: it is a valuable by-product of juice production. Quince from Spain are pressed in Baden-Württemberg to produce fresh quince juice. The wax is then obtained from the residues or ‘pomace’ from the pressing process.

Every year, some 60 tonnes of pomace are processed to create quince wax for WALA/Dr. Hauschka. What makes quince wax so fascinating is that, depending on the variety and year, the yield from the dried pomace can fluctuate by between 0.7 and 1.5 percent. This makes stocking the right amount of raw material at all times particularly challenging.

The wax is obtained through a procedure known as CO2 extraction. The dried pomace is placed in pressurised containers with liquid carbon dioxide and the quince wax is carefully separated from the rest of the pomace. This procedure does not create any waste and is organically certified.

Once WALA has received the wax and it has passed the quality controls, it can be heated and incorporated into the skin care formulations. Quince Face Cream or Kajal Eyeliner can now be created.

A further key ingredient for Dr. Hauschka products is also found within the quince. Quince seeds are surrounded by a highly absorbent coating. If the seeds are placed in water overnight, the mucilages in this coating swell. The next day, the soaked quince seeds are manually pressed. This careful procedure, developed by WALA many years ago, is used to obtain the valuable quince seed extract.

Tip: Place a bowl of quince in your home for their magnificent fragrance. Then for a delicious dessert Slow Roast Quince in their Jelly

Winter Skin Care

Screen Shot 2015-07-02 at 12.29.10 pm

Dryness and dehydration is a prime reason for premature wrinkles and lines so it’s imperative we protect our skin from this condition.

Dryness: lack of oil
Caused by ageing and the slowing down of sebum production, genetics and a drying outdoor environment.

Dehydration: lack of water
Caused by not drinking enough water and air conditioning/heating indoor environment. Air travel is extremely dehydrating.

We often see both conditions presenting in the same skin.

Quince Seed Extract helps your skin to retain moisture
Quince Seed Extract helps your skin to retain moisture

So what’s the solution to winter dryness and dehydration?

Hydrating Mask is our ultimate winter skin fix, twice a week, cleanse early in the evening and apply the mask, around your eye contour too, and leave on to absorb all evening, removing with a moist, tepid cloth before bed.

Tip: If your skin is extremely dry you may also use Hydrating Mask as your ‘day cream’ for a month or until condition improves.

This blend of botanicals soothes, protects and revitalises while sealing in moisture, leaving skin feeling smooth and supple.

– Quince seed extract replenishes and helps dry skin to retain moisture
– Nourishing almond, avocado, olive and jojoba oils hydrate the outer layer of skin
– Rose wax and organic shea butter soothe and protect

Skin healers and anti-oxidants are Vitamins A, C & E - all found in this blend

Another winter skin solution
The skin healers and antioxidants are Vitamins A, C and E, and the optimum choice when topically applying these vitamins is when they come in the form of the whole plant extract, as opposed to isolated and/or synthetic chemicals.

Rosehip is a rich source of vitamin C and Wheatgerm is a rich source of vitamin E, both found in Rose Day Cream formulation. Mix with a couple of drops of Clarifying Day Oil to skin still moist from Toner. That glorious orange colour comes from Wild Carrot Extract, a rich source of provitamin A.

There you have it, a potent antioxidant and protective blend for cold weather!

Mask Treatment Tip:
Firming, Moisturising & Hydrating Mask Blend
For a dry and/or dehydrating skin that also needs firming:

• Cleanse early in the evening
• Apply a generous amount of Regenerating Serum including eye contour area as an ‘eye mask’ as well
• Then apply Hydrating Mask over the Serum, including eye contour area
• Leave to absorb all evening, removing with a warm, moist cloth just before bedtime

The other blend we recommend is for those that get dry, red, irritated, itchy or flaky skin in winter. You can still do the above Mask Treatment Blend, but use Soothing Mask instead of Hydrating Mask to strengthen and restore a sensitive skin. Regenerating Serum is also formulated for a sensitive skin.

Do you need to alter your day care with the Seasons?

Yes, that may well be the case.  We have many customers using cooling Quince Day Cream or matte Rose Day Cream Light in the warmer months and change to more protective and warming Rose Day Cream in the cooler months.  Check in with your skin, see how it’s feeling and certainly change to a more protective day care if need be.

I use Regenerating Serum and Regenerating Day Cream during the week which is spent indoors and in the weekend I use Regenerating Serum and Rose Day Cream when I’m more likely to have time outdoors. So even my weekly ritual changes due to my daily environment.

For a dry skin we also recommend Revitalising Day Cream which helps to activate sebaceous glands, even though it’s very light in texture. Some of our customers like to apply Tinted Day Cream or Rose Day Cream over Revitalising Day Cream to provide additional winter time protection.

If Regenerating Day Cream isn’t enough in the cooler seasons then you may switch to using the more rich Regenerating Neck & Décolleté Cream for your face care as well.

Winter is a hibernating time according to the rhythm of nature. We can’t exactly hibernate, but we can sustain ourselves with warming Moor Lavender Calming Body Oil which is both warming and protective, or my personal favourite, Blackthorn Toning Body Oil which I find warming and strengthening. It also helps me focus when I’m wearing it, getting through one job at a time and tick them off. Blackthorn Elixir has been used for years as a strengthening tonic to assist in the treatment of fatigue or convalescence and for those who are feeling stressed or drained of vitality.

Sensitive Skin

Did you know? Many people suffer from sensitive skin. According to a report by the American Academy of Dermatology at least 50% of women and 30% of men.

Sensitive skin can feel dry and tight. Redness may be prevalent as well. Very dry skin falls under the sensitive banner as it’s often suffering from water/hydration loss and a weakened natural barrier function.

Sensitive skin is in need of strengthening and protection

Fine-pored, thin-skinned, extremely low oil content, highly dehydrated, premature wrinkles, feels tight, redness, tendency to become inflamed and develop eczema, reactive.

What causes sensitivities

  • Skin disorders or allergic skin reactions such as eczema, or allergic contact dermatitis
  • Overly dry or injured skin that can no longer protect nerve endings, leading to skin reactions
  • Excessive exposure to skin, damaging environmental factors such as sun, wind, excessive heat or cold
  • Use of harsh skin products, exfoliation via beads, acids such as AHA and BHA’s, scrubs, overly alkaline and/or lathering cleansers
  • Harsh skin treatments such as dermabrasion

Sensitive skin often appears red, irritated and in need of soothing, calming, stabilising and strengthening care.

Dr. Hauschka Skin Care offers sensitive skin gentle yet powerful products that de-stress skin, working quickly to support, strengthen and stabilise the skin’s barrier function. Our products minimise the appearance of redness, couperose and dilated capillaries. Skin becomes calm and more resilient, able to protect itself and maintain an even, balanced, smooth complexion.

We usually recommend Rose Day Cream for a sensitive skin, ingredient St. John’s wort is calming and soothing, rose is balancing, harmonising and strengthens dilated capillaries while beeswax, carnauba wax, precious rose flower wax and shea butter is highly protective against the elements. By mixing a little Revitalising Mask with your Rose Day Cream it becomes more cooling and soothing. Rose Day Cream Light may also be used. Rose is, however, a warming ingredient.

If you there’s heat in your skin you may find Quince Day Cream is the better choice. Quince is a cooling ingredient.

Regenerating Serum is formulated for sensitive skin.

Soothing Mask is a must, twice weekly, as is regular treatments with Sensitive Care Conditioner and/or Soothing Intensive Treatment. You may also use Soothing Mask as your day cream for a one-month skin strengthening boost.

If you’re also experiencing extreme dryness and/or dehydration then incorporate Hydrating Mask into your skin regime also.

Why Dr. Hauschka doesn’t recommend night creams:

  • While you sleep your skin is actually hard at work regenerating, balancing oil production and expelling impurities.
  • Application of night creams interferes with these essential tasks, and over time skin becomes less able to care for itself. Use of night cream also signals the sebaceous glands to cut down on moisture production, resulting in drier skin!

Dry/Dehydrated Skin

Your skin is unique

You and your skin cannot be rigidly pigeon-holed. You need the right care concepts for different days, your week environment maybe quite different from your weekend environment, different seasons and different stages of life. At Dr.Hauschka, we therefore refer to skin conditions, which appear and disappear, rather than fixed skin types.

Dry or Dehydrated – what’s the difference?
