Spring Skin Care & Potent Antioxidant Blend

Screen Shot 2015-09-30 at 11.42.16 am

Dryness and dehydration is a prime reason for premature wrinkles and lines so it’s imperative we protect our skin from this condition.

So what’s the solution to dryness and dehydration?

Hydrating Mask is our ultimate skin fix to hydrate and moisturise, attending to both dryness and dehydration. Use twice a week, cleanse early in the evening and apply the mask, around your eye contour too, and rather than leaving it on for 2-30 minutes, I prefer to leave it on to absorb all evening, removing with a moist, tepid cloth before bed.

If your skin is extremely dry you may also use Hydrating Mask as your ‘day cream’ for a month or until condition improves.

This super rich blend of botanicals soothes, protects and revitalises while sealing in moisture, leaving skin feeling smooth, supple and plumped!

– Quince seed extract replenishes and helps dry skin to retain moisture
– Nourishing almond, avocado, olive and jojoba oils
– Rose wax and organic shea butter soothe and protect

Skin Vitamins
The skin healers and antioxidants are Vitamins A, C and E, and the optimum choice when topically applying these vitamins is when they come in the form of the whole plant extract, not as a synthetic chemical isolated ingredient.

Rich in antioxidants blend

Rosehip for Vitamin C and Wheatgerm for Vitamin E, both found in Rose Day Cream, mix with a drop of two of Clarifying Day Oil prior to application to skin still moist from Toner. The magnificent orange colour of Clarifying Day Oil comes from Wild Carrot Extract, a rich source of provitamin A.  When we use Clarifying Day Oil in this way, rather than for an oily skin prescription, we are using it as an oil ‘serum’.

There you have it, a potent antioxidant and protective blend!

Blending

This first blend is so uplifting that when our UK Esthetician Trainer tried it she only did it on one half of her face. She promptly had to do the other half because of the difference it had made.

  • Cleanse early in the evening
  • Apply a generous amount of Regenerating Serum – eye contour area too, as an eye mask
  • Then apply Hydrating Mask over the top – eye contour area too, as an eye mask
  • Leave to absorb all evening, removing with a warm, moist cloth just before bedtime

Soothing & Moisturising Mask Blend

  • For dry, red, irritated, itchy or flaky skin
  • Cleanse early in the evening

Do you need to alter your day care with the Seasons?

Yes, that may well be the case.  We have many customers using cooling Quince Day Cream in the warmer months and the more protective and warming Rose Day Cream in the colder months.  Other customers choose to use Rose Day Cream Light with its matte texture and lighter formulation in spring/summer and Rose Day Cream in autumn/winter.  Check in with your skin, see how it’s feeling and certainly change to a more protective day care if need be.

I use Regenerating Serum and Regenerating Day Cream during the week which is spent indoors and in the weekend I use Rose Day Cream when I’m more likely to have time outdoors. I usually mix in a couple of drops of Clarifying Day Oil too with my Rose Day Cream, as an oil based ‘serum’ in this case, to increase antioxidants. So even my weekly ritual changes due to my daily environment.

We can support ourselves in stressful times with Moor Lavender Calming Body Oil which is a protective and calming blend. Blackthorn Toning Body Oil I find warming, strengthening and it helps me focus, one job at a time and tick them off. Blackthorn Elixir has been used for years as a strengthening tonic to assist in the treatment of fatigue or convalescence and for those who are feeling stressed or drained of vitality. Lemon Lemongrass is refreshing and revitalising. Almond St. John’s wort Soothing Body Oil is a cheerful blend. Rose is both exotic and nurturing. Birch Arnica is recommended during detox and is supportive pre or post exercise and also useful if you have aching muscles or stiff joints.

Do you need a Serum or an Oil?

Or might you need both…

Regenerating Serum
Regenerating Serum

What does Regenerating Serum do?

Regenerating Serum is firming and toning to the skin, you can feel it working it’s magic right from the get go!

You may not be able to see it’s firming action in the mirror on a day to day basis however I remember starting Regenerating Serum (and partner product Regenerating Day Cream), then going off to my hairdresser appointment 8 weeks later and the first thing he said to me was “Have you had work done?”, “No, of course not, *rolled eyes*, but you must be noticing my Regenerating, YAY!”
I’ve had similar situations with girlfriends when I’ve suggested it’s time to go onto Regenerating, and seeing them several weeks later.

  • Quince seed and Bryophyllum extracts replenish, smoothing wrinkles and fine lines while supporting the skin’s ability to balance moisture content
  • Antioxidant-rich Red Clover firms and refines, encouraging the skin’s natural processes of renewal
  • Nutrient-rich Clover Blossom Honey protects
  • Key ingredient Red Clover, it’s the great regenerator – mow down a field of red clover and it will all have grown back in no time at all, this is the vitality impulse we want to pass onto your skin

Who’s it for?

Formulated to support a maturing skin, it’s also cooling and soothing for a skin that may be sensitive as well. We usually recommend for age 40+ however, we may recommend at an earlier age in some cases – premature wrinkles, sun damage.

How do you use it?

Use one pump after cleansing and toning in the morning, and prior to moisturising.
In the evening use one pump after cleansing and toning.

Clarifying Day Oil
Clarifying Day Oil

Fondly referred to as our ‘liquid gold’!
That glorious orange colour comes from Wild Carrot Extract, which provides your skin with a rich source of provitamin A, among other goodies.

What does Clarifying Day Oil do?

Because we also produce around 900 homeopathic remedies we incorporate many homeopathic guidelines into our skin care. Clarifying Day Oil embraces ‘like treats like’ – give an oily skin an oil! Now you may think that’s contrary to everything else you’ve ever heard. However, harsh, overly alkaline, lathering, exfoliating products just ‘strip’ an oily skin, giving that ‘squeaky clean’ feeling that means the pH has been disrupted, then your skin goes into overdrive to compensate, producing even more oil.  We recommend for any age that’s suffering from an oily skin.
Clarifying Day Oil allows an oily skin to regulate and relax.

That’s not the only use for Clarifying Day Oil though…
We also use it to support any skin condition at any age in a blend.

Let’s look at the ingredients:

  • Anthyllis regulates, strengthens and balances any and all skin conditions
  • Apricot Kernel, Sweet Almond, Sunflower, Jojoba Seed Oils and Cocoa Butter nourish the skin
  • Wild Carrot Root Extract is a rich source of provitamin A, one of the skin healing vitamins
  • St. John’s wort (Hypericum) and Calendula Extracts soothe and calm the skin
  • Wheat Germ Oil is gluten free and a rich source of vitamin E, another of the skin healing vitamins

Who’s it for?

Anyone with an oily/blemished skin, at any age
Anyone who wishes to include these ingredients in their skin regime

How do you use it?

For an oily/blemished skin: Use 2-3 drops of Clarifying Day Oil after cleansing and toning in the morning only.

For any other skin condition: Use in a blend, examples…

a) Mix a couple of drops of Clarifying Day Oil with Rose Day Cream prior to application to get your vitamins A and E from Clarifying Day Oil and vitamin C, the other skin healing vitamin, from Rose Day Cream’s Rose Hip Extract. Makes a potent anti-oxidant blend.

b) For a combination skin, Revitalising Day Cream with Clarifying Day Oil.

c) For a maturing skin Regenerating Day Cream mixed with Clarifying Day Oil.

15 Top Foods for Healthy Skin

Screen Shot 2014-04-11 at 4.49.52 pm

Choose natural nutritious quality foods, preferably organic and as little as possible processing for a healthy skin.

1) Salmon, wild salmon and cold smoked preferably, or other oily fish. Oily fish such as salmon, trout or herring contain at least twice as many calories as white fish. They are all rich in protein, essential fatty acids and vitamins A, B12 and D. Tinned tuna retains vitamins but is low in EFA’s due to the removal of the oil.

Screen Shot 2014-10-26 at 1.40.14 pm

2) Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are exactly that, they’re essential for good skin health, indeed good body health. Omega 3 & 6 EFAs are found in LSA – Linseed (aka Flaxseed) or LSC – Linseed (aka Flaxseed) Sunflower Seeds and Chia. EFAs are sensitive to oxygen, light and heat is detrimental to EFAs so make sure your pack has an oxygen absorber and store in the fridge. Sprinkle on your breakfast Bircher muesli or put a dessertspoon full into your breakfast smoothie along with frozen banana, frozen berries, coconut water, leafy greens and raw brown rice protein powder for a great start to the day.

Screen Shot 2014-04-11 at 4.52.19 pm

3) Walnuts contain omega-3 essential fatty acids, which can improve skin’s elasticity, they’re also a source of copper, a mineral that boosts collagen production. Almonds and Brazils are other skin favouring nuts.

4) Green Tea contains polyphenols which have anti-inflammatory properties and it also has anti-oxidant qualities.

5) Avocado is rich in B complex vitamins, potassium, anti-oxidants and good fats.

Screen Shot 2014-10-26 at 1.27.28 pm

6) Dark Chocolate contains high levels of flavonoids, a potent type of antioxidant. Everything in moderation though!

7) Carotenoids, the antioxidants in yellow and orange fruit and veg can decrease skin’s sensitivity to the sun.

8) All foods that are rich Vitamins A, C & E – these are the skin healers, so think Carrots for pro Vitamin A, fresh seasonal fruit for Vitamin C and Wheatgerm is a rich source of Vitamin E.

Screen Shot 2014-10-26 at 12.36.59 pm

Skin Tip: Mix Rose Day Cream with a couple of drops of Clarifying Day Oil for a topical anti-oxidant rich Vitamin A, C & E blend.

9) Drink a latte with soy milk or eat edamame. Soy contains minerals and proteins that have been shown to reduce pigmentation.

Screen Shot 2014-10-26 at 1.29.02 pm

10) Oats, the less processed the better and preferably organic. Oats are high in calcium, potassium, magnesium, vitamin E, B vitamins, protein and more.

11) Millet is rich in silica, which is vital for healthy skin, hair, teeth, eyes and nails.

Screen Shot 2014-10-26 at 1.34.32 pm

12) Leafy greens. Watercress is full of vitamins A and C, kale contains a full range of vitamins A, B complex, C, E and K, as well as potent levels of manganese, calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, protein, folate and phosphorus. Green smoothies are an excellent way to increase your green uptake.

13) Beetroot are particularly high in vitamin A, as well as potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, and vitamin E, which is essential for epidermal health and healing. Combined, these nutrients make a powerful all-round body cleanser, helping to eliminate toxins from the body.

Screen Shot 2014-10-26 at 1.37.38 pm

14) Steady blood sugar levels and skin health may be linked. Opt for brown, wholegrain, low GI foods like brown rice. A portion a day not only provides a rich source of B vitamins, protein, selenium and magnesium, as well as several antioxidants.

Screen Shot 2014-10-26 at 1.31.12 pm

15) All berries are anti-oxidant packed.

Skin Condition: Dry Skin

Screen Shot 2014-01-28 at 1.41.52 pm

Dry Skin Fix

Dryness and dehydration is a prime reason for premature wrinkles and lines so it’s imperative we protect our skin from this condition.

Daily Ritual
Morning:
Cleansing Cream
Facial Toner

Day Care Options:
1) If your skin is ‘parched’ dry we would recommend Moisturising Mask used as a day cream until condition improves.
2) Protective Blend: Moisturising Day Cream to activate the skin’s sebaceous activity and Rose Day Cream over the top to nourish and protect.
3) Antioxidant Blend: see information below. Rose Day Cream blended with a couple of drops of Normalising Day Oil.
3) Rose Day Cream
4) Regenerating Serum and Regenerating Day Cream is our usual recommendation for maturing skin support, however as Regenerating Neck & Décolleté Day Cream is more rich we would recommend to use on your face for a drier skin that still requires firming and toning.

Evening:
Cleansing Milk
Facial Toner
Regenerating Serum
if required for a maturing skin

Did you know?
That night cream use exacerbates a dry skin condition. Use our gentle cleansing products and give your skin 28-30 days (skin cell cycle) on an exclusively Dr. Hauschka regime and see the difference in the health and vitality of your skin.

Solution to dryness and dehydration?

Moisturising Mask is our ultimate skin fix, twice a week, cleanse early in the evening and apply the mask, around your eye contour too, and leave on to absorb all evening, removing with a moist, tepid cloth before bed.
If your skin is extremely dry you may also use Moisturising Mask as your ‘day cream’ for a month or until condition improves.
This blend of botanicals soothes, protects and revitalises while sealing in moisture, leaving skin feeling smooth and supple.

– Quince seed extract replenishes and helps dry skin to retain moisture.
– Nourishing almond, avocado, olive and jojoba oils hydrate the outer layer of skin
– Rose wax and organic shea butter soothe and protect.

The skin healers and antioxidants are Vitamins A, C and E, and the optimum choice when topically applying these vitamins is when they come in the form of the whole plant extract.
Rosehip for Vitamin C and Wheatgerm for Vitamin E, both found in Rose Day Cream formulation. Mix with a drop of two of Normalising Day Oil prior to application to skin still moist from Toner. That glorious orange colour comes from Wild Carrot Extract, a rich source of pro Vitamin A.

There you have it, a potent antioxidant blend!

Intensive Skin Care with Mask Blends:

Jose, our Esthetician Trainer, has a couple of tricks up her sleeve to keep skin looking fabulous. This first blend is so uplifting that when our UK Esthetician tried it she only did it on one half of her face. She promptly had to do the other half because of the difference it had made.

Firming & Moisturising Mask Blend

• Cleanse early in the evening
• Apply a generous amount of Regenerating Serum – also to eye contour area as an eye mask
• Then apply Moisturising Mask over the top – also to eye contour as an eye mask
• Leave to absorb all evening, removing just before bedtime

The other blend is for those of you that have red, irritated, flaky skin as well as dryness. You may still wish to use Regenerating Serum as well if you usually do.

Soothing & Moisturising Mask Blend
• Cleanse early in the evening
• Apply a generous amount of a mixture of Soothing Mask and Moisturising Mask – including eye contour area
• Leave to absorb all evening, removing just before bedtime

A dry skin needs help to achieve balance and we highly recommend a one month treatment with a nightly Rhythmic Night Conditioner ampoule instead of Toner.

Plant Profile: Argan Oil

The Argan Fruit. Dr. Hauschka Slimline Lipsticks: 01 Glossy Chocolate, 02 Orange, 03 Hazelnut, 04 Nature Shimmer, Regenerating Neck and Décolleté Cream.

Goats in trees and trees in the desert!

The mighty Argan Tree, which can reach an age of 200 years, manages to combine both spectacles. This survival artist of the Moroccan desert produces fruit which is a delicacy for goats. Inside the fruit is a large nut about 3 cm in diameter. This in turn contains between one and three drop-shaped seeds or kernels which are smaller than sunflower seeds but rich in a valuable oil.

moroccostylegoat
Sure footed goats!

Argan Oil, Morocco’s liquid gold, 20 kg of kernels are required for one litre of oil.

A fine fragrant golden yellow oil is extracted from the kernels of the Argan Tree. The Berbers of Morocco have used it for centuries because of its unique properties which are said to be superior to those of olive oil. Its natural antioxidants are believed to have numerous positive effects on skin and health by destroying free radicals. The oil protects the skin from drying and makes it soft and supple, it is reputed to reduce wrinkles, improve brittle nails and dry hair and slow down skin ageing.

Interesting Facts

The Argan Tree is one of the oldest trees on earth. It is believed to have grown over 80 million years ago in south Morocco. The first written record is in the writings of the famous physician Ibn Al Baytar in the year 1219. Today Berber women still obtain argan oil by an ancient process. After the harvest from July to September the fruits are dried in the open air. A stone is then used to crack open the hard nuts and obtain the kernels. These are roasted over an open fire and ground to a pulp in a hand-driven stone mill. This is mixed with water to form a paste which the women then knead by hand to extract the argan oil. The dried fruit pulp and the press cake left after extraction of the oil are fed to cows and sheep. Because of its intensive use as forage for goats and camels and as firewood the argan tree population was over-exploited. Old trees died and no new trees grew to replace them, so that there was nothing left to prevent erosion. In 1998 the UNESCO declared the Argan Region, the Arganeraie, a biosphere reserve. Since 1995 the GTZ (German Association for Technical Cooperation), commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation, has been engaged in reforestation of the Argan woodlands. A subproject within the biosphere reserve are women’s cooperatives whose existence is based on the production and marketing of Argan Oil.

Vitamins for Your Skin

Screen Shot 2013-09-05 at 10.58.02 AM

The skin healers and antioxidants are Vitamins A, C and E, and the optimum choice when topically applying these vitamins is when they come in the form of the whole plant extract. Rosehip for Vitamin C and Wheatgerm for Vitamin E, both found in Rose Day Cream formulation.  Mix your Rose Day Cream with a drop of two of Normalising Day Oil* in the palms of your hands prior to application. A potent antioxidant blend! The glorious orange colour of Normalising Day Oil originates from Wild Carrot Extract, a rich source of pro Vitamin A. Antioxidant vitamins such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E are very important to healthy skin because it is these vitamins that share in the responsibility of controlling the damage that free radicals by products of energy production within the body and of environmental contaminants such as air pollution produce. Among the several types of damage done by free radicals is the destruction of collagen and elastin which are fibres that support the skin and keeps it looking supple. As these are damaged wrinkles and a lack of that youthful firmness can occur. Vitamin C also plays a part in the production of collagen making it essential to the function and look of the skin.

Vitamin A

If your skin has been feeling scaly and dry, then there’s a possibility that you might be lacking in Vitamin A. Since Vitamin A also helps the skin rebuild tissues, it is also an essential vitamin when it comes to healing wounds and other damage to the skin. Vitamin A is also a great anti-ageing nutrient to protect against wrinkles and dull skin.

Vitamin C

For brighter, clearer, firmer skin, reach for vitamin C. “It’s the most potent antioxidant in terms of collagen building for anti-ageing purposes” says Jose, our Australasian Esthetician Trainer. It is thought to assist with sun defence, as well as clarifying the complexion, addressing pigmentation and brightening. Vitamin C is also an effective antioxidant. This means that it can also help with skin aging. Vitamin C also stimulates the production of collagen in your skin. Collagen is the protein responsible for making your skin supple. So if you wish to retain smooth and youthful skin then Vitamin C can help.

Vitamin E

Soothing, moisturising and protective, vitamin E is a powerful healer, so is good for sensitive skin or sun damage, combined with vitamin C. It is also thought to be more effective when used together with vitamin A. Vitamin E is perhaps the most well-known vitamin that is essential for healthy skin. This is because Vitamin E is an effective antioxidant that helps fight free radicals which are one of the major causes of premature skin ageing. As a result, Vitamin E can be an important anti-ageing nutrient. Appearance of age spots, wrinkles, stretch marks and lines are reduced by applying Vitamin-E rich products. Wheatgerm Oil, contained in Rose Day Cream is a rich source of Vitamin E. *Normalising Day Oil is our product for an oily/acne/blemished skin, however, we also use it to mix in with Rose Day Cream as a potent antioxidant and protective oil ‘serum’ blend.
