Beat the Heat Make-up Tips

Always cleanse, tone and moisturise before applying makeup. You may wish to use a matte moisturiser such as Rose Day Cream Light or if you have a combination oily T-zone skin then use Melissa Day Cream. If you have a dry/dehydrated skin that needs a moisturiser that’s activating yet very light in texture for summer time, then use Revitalising Day Cream. Leave your moisturiser to absorb fully prior to make-up application.

For a long-lasting make-up in hot weather our International Make-up Artist, Karim Sattar, recommends this technique…

1) Apply Colour Correcting Powder, Loose Powder or Compact Powder first.

Our Powders and Foundation blend together beautifully. Dr. Hauschka 100% natural make-up is free from silicones, so you won’t get a patchy look.

2) You now have a matte base to apply your Foundation.

3) Apply Colour Correcting Powder, Loose Powder or Compact Powder again to set make-up.

4) Apply Blush and/or Bronzer.

5) Mist your make-up with Toner.

At the moment I’m loving Blush Duo 03 sun-kissed nectarine for both cheeks and eyes.

 

HOT TIPS for a long-lasting eye liner and brows

1) Moisten an angled brush with Toner.

2) Pick up colour with your brush from just the one corner of the darkest shade of your Eyeshadow Palette or Trio.

3) With your brush apply a line to the lower lash line from outer to inner, starting a little further out than the outer edge of your eye.

4) You’ll need to pick up more colour with your brush, then apply to the upper lash line from the outer to the inner and beginning from the extended colour from your lower lash line so the two meet.

5) Define your brows with the residual colour left on the brush and set with Brow & Lash Gel.

If you prefer a more defined upper lash line that will also stay the distance.

 

Apply Eyeshadow for a matte start, then Eye Definer Pencil and set with Eyeshadow over the top. Alternatively use Liquid Eyeliner.

Long-lasting lipstick

1) Apply Blush to your lips first, which provides a matte base.

2) Use Lip Liner over the entire lip area rather than an outline.

3) Apply your favourite Lipstick, ‘kiss’ a tissue to remove excess, and re-apply.

How to Enhance Your Eyes

Choosing the perfect eyeshadow

To really enhance your eyes, to make them look more alluring, bigger, brighter and the whites appear whiter, then choose eyeshadow colours that fall opposite to your iris colour on the colour wheel, as opposed to colours that are the same or similar colour as your eyes or colours that match your clothes.

Complementary colours

Colour wheel

The opposite of blue is orange/golds/browns

The opposite of green is lilac/burgundy/pinks

The opposite of brown is aqua/blues/greens

Using complementary colours provides the most contrast between your iris colour and your shadow colour, therefore it’s this contrast that enhances your eyes.

 

Suggestions to enhance your iris colour

 

Blue Eyes

Eyeshadow Trio 04 sunstone, Eyeshadow 05 amber, Eye Definer 02 brown/05 taupe, Liquid Eyeliner 02 brown, Defining Mascara 02 brown, Volume Mascara 02 brown.

Green Eyes

Eyeshadow Trio 03 ametrine, Eyeshadow 03 rubellite, Eye Definer 06 plum/02 brown, Liquid Eyeliner 02 brown, Defining Mascara 02 brown, Volume Mascara 02 brown/03 plum.

Brown Eyes

Eyeshadow Trio 01 sapphire/02 jade, Eyeshadow 04 verdelite, 02 lapis lazuli, Eye Definer 01 black, 03 blue, 04 green, Liquid Eyeliner 01 black, Defining Mascara 01 black/03 blue, Volume Mascara 01 black.

Hazel Eyes are multiple colours so choose the same recommendations as for brown eyes using the colour wheel concept to contrast differing colour flecks in your eyes to highlight.

Aside from complementary colours, everyone needs a brown, taupe and neutral shades palette too, This also includes brown eyes, which can use browns, just need to stay away from muddy browns. Eye & Brow Palette with matte shades for both eyes and brows.

Application Tips

1. Always apply eyeshadow from outer towards inner, not the other way around, for a professional and uplifting look to your eyeshadow application. When you apply from inner to outer you end up with colour dragging your eye downwards.
2. When you’re applying your deepest colour to the crease, always keep your eyes open to ensure correct placement of the colour.

Bright eyes

Dramatic colour effects

“For an especially dramatic colour effect, you can apply Eyeshadow Solo 07 Lilac wet. To achieve this look, pick up some eyeshadow with the brush and then spray it with Facial Toner. For additional staying power, you can then go over the eye area again with a dry eyeshadow. You can also use this technique as well when applying Eyeshadow 01 Golden Sand to intensify the highlight effect. The eyeshadows contain genuine silk to caress the area around the eye and bring a shine to the iris.”

Summer Sun-Kissed 

“For a lightly bronzed look, after applying Foundation use your Powder Brush to apply Bronzing Powder gently to your entire face for a sun-kissed glow. You can also use Bronzing Powder to highlight and shade certain areas of the face.”

Glamour Tip

For more intensive colour, apply Eyeshadow 07 while damp. Just add a little Eyeshadow to a brush, then mist the brush with Facial Toner. This technique can also be used to further enhance the effect of using Eyeshadow 01 as a highlighter.
